Order! Order! Relax About The iPad!
Since people have been reading the news of the rumoured iPad 5 plastered on nearly every website, including iPhoneGamerUK, people have really kicked up a fuss!
Let me clear some rumours and put all your minds at rest!
1. The glass iPad
The rendering above is one of the main images when I googled “iPad 5″, a few websites have used it also (I edited to point flaws). The next iPad will NOT look like this, it looks disgusting and is completely impractical due to a couple of factors. There is no bezel, the iPad needs a bezel for you to hold, in this rendering you would always be touching the display which would lead to countless accidental touches. The other main point is the Home button on the dock. It’s not always practical to use gestures on the iPad, mainly in apps. This home button means the dock has to always be there, something Apple would not even consider. This rendering also has to be quite old as looking at the iPod icon, shows it’s running pre-iOS 5, and there is still a YouTube app, and old Apple maps. I think it’s safe to say this rendering is not remotely close to what Apple have hiding in Cupertino. I also think this would be a rumoured rendering for the iPad 2, as it has the first gen speaker grill and a 30-Pin dock connector, meaning this image is around 2 years old!
2. 3D iPad
Please can people stop chucking this one out there?! Everyone knows that 3D needs glasses or with the Nintendo 3DS you need a set of migraine tablets. 3D would require some hefty GPU and a big battery, Apple has great battery technology, but not this great. It would also limit the user base by millions, something Apple would not even risk.
3. Your iPad isn’t exactly obsolete.
iPads have proven to have a long life, the iPad 2 is now nearly two years old and Apple still produce them, so will have another couple of years on the iOS roadmap. SO you paid around £500 for something which will last you 3-4 years, that’s not that bad! In terms of the 3-4 generation iPads, you can’t really class them as different devices, they have the same screen and most of the same specs. The fourth gen just received a small speed bump to bring it inline with the iPhone 5. So no matter what you’re still left with a great device.
I have stated the rumoured specs, which seem realistic in a previous post, but these recent rumours of 3D and no bezel can’t be true, they have been present since the first iPad in 2010, and remain there until they are true and someone can say “told you”.
